Through the skilled application of crowns and bridges, our dentists can strengthen and restore your teeth to increase your confidence and give you more reasons to smile.

A crown (also known as a cap) is a permanent and natural-looking casing that completely covers the tooth:

  • Strengthening teeth, including root canal treated teeth
  • Restoring heavily filled or worn teeth
  • Improving the appearance of discoloured or poorly shaped teeth
  • Protecting cracked teeth
  • Accommodating the attachment of a fixed bridge¬†

A bridge is crafted to look like your normal teeth and is used to replace one or more missing teeth. Bridges connect to the teeth on either side of the space by crowning these teeth, effectively linking them together. Thus a bridge removes the need for a denture, but only if the surrounding teeth are strong enough to support it.

Three appointments are usually required to assess, measure and fit a new crown or bridge.

We guarantee our crowns and bridges for five years, provided you attend regular checkup and hygiene appointments with us at least once every calendar year. Then, in the extremely unlikely event of a crown breaking, we will repair or replace it as appropriate at no charge to you.

Root canal (also known as endodontic) treatment allows us save teeth that have been badly damaged by deep decay, cracks, large fillings, excessive wear or a blow to the mouth.

The process involves cleaning and sealing the internal structure of the tooth to prevent or cure an abscess, and usually requires two or three visits to complete. Through the skill and care of our dentists, and thanks to our investment in specialist nickel-titanium rotary instruments, root canal treatment at Diamond Dental Care has little or no discomfort involved and enjoys a very high success rate.

We strongly recommend that a crown is fitted following root canal treatment. This will not only strengthen and secure your tooth for years to come, but is also less expensive than extracting a badly damaged tooth and replacing with an implant.

When teeth are lost or extracted, a denture is the lowest cost option to maintain ease of chewing and retain normal speech and appearance. (Other alternatives would be to fit a bridge or an implant, or simply to leave a space. However, you should be aware that when a space is left, the neighbouring teeth often tilt and drift, which can ultimately lead to further tooth loss.)

Dentures come in a range of options, and thanks to modern advances they look more natural and fit better than ever before. We can fit dentures to replace anything from a single tooth to the whole set, and our dentists would be happy to discuss all the appropriate options with you.

If you have missing teeth or dentures, you may wish to consider dental implants to restore the full use of your teeth and to create a happy, confident smile.

Replacing a single missing tooth with a dental implant is a great alternative to fitting a denture or bridge. Your dentist will place an implant into the gum where the tooth is missing, then attach a bespoke crown to it. The new crown is crafted to look like your natural teeth and it will not move - you can brush your teeth and eat as normal.

Dental implants require all the same care and attention as natural teeth and, when looked after properly, last just as long.
